A round neck blouse design is the one most tailors can stitch with their eyes closed, and for good reason: it flatters almost every face and every saree. From that simple gol gala come the square, paan, U and oval shapes on this page.
We have grouped 15 designs by shape, with front and back options for each. Use them with the depth guide below. For more front styles see our blouse front design gallery.
Round Neck Blouse Design: Front Gala Ideas
The gol gala is the most worn blouse round neck design in India. It flatters almost everyone and lets your necklace sit flat. Change the depth and the edge finish and it looks new every time.

Small zari scallops turn a plain gol gala into a festive one. Wear it with a cream and gold kasavu or a coral silk saree.
Tailor note: Front depth 5.5 inches, back 8 inches, and cut every scallop from one paper template so they match.

Mustard and white kantha stitch gives a handmade feel. A natural pick for Bengal tant or soft handloom cotton sarees.
Tailor note: Keep the gala 5 inches deep, finish the embroidery before adding lining, and close with side hooks.

A high round neck sits close to the collarbone and looks royal with a plain chiffon saree. The brooch takes the place of a necklace.
Tailor note: Front depth only 2 inches, back zip, and a stitched thread loop to hold the brooch in place.
Round Neck Blouse Back Design
A round back blouse design is the easiest back to stitch well. Go about 8 inches for daily wear and about 10 inches for parties. Add a dori from our dori blouse design page if you want extra support.

A deep round back with a dori across the middle is classic party wear. Pair it with a pink and gold Banarasi saree.
Tailor note: Back depth about 10 inches, light padding in front for support, and a dori with two small gold latkans.

A medium round back with three covered buttons looks tidy and smart. Good with printed cotton sarees for office.
Tailor note: Back depth 8 inches, three covered buttons with loops below the neck, and self piping on the edge.

Two round openings with a velvet band between them look rich for winter weddings. Wear it with a gold tissue or silver saree.
Tailor note: Upper circle 4 inches, lower circle 5 inches, a 2 inch band between, gold piping on both, cotton lining.
Square Neck Blouse Design, Front and Back
A square blouse design gives a clean, strong line that suits a round face and broad shoulders. The square shape blouse design works on silk and cotton alike, as long as the corners are reinforced. Choose a square blouse design front for jewellery, and a square back blouse design for a neat, tailored look.

A wide square front shows off a choker or temple necklace beautifully. Pair it with a red Kanjivaram or a gold tissue saree.
Tailor note: Square 5 inches deep and 6 inches wide, corners reinforced with stay tape, princess seams for a smooth front.

A deep square back with tassels at the two lower corners is lovely for haldi and mehendi. Match it with a green or pink saree.
Tailor note: Back depth about 10 inches, light front padding, and small silk tassels at the two lower corners.

This square blouse design back stays at a modest depth, with chikan work framing the edge. Wear it with a pastel chikan saree in summer.
Tailor note: Back square 8 inches deep and 7 wide, embroidery only on the border, hooks at the front.
Pan Gala Blouse Design Front and Back Side
The paan or leaf shape comes to a soft point, like a betel leaf. A pan shape blouse design front makes the neck look slimmer, while a back side pan gala blouse design looks graceful under a long braid or a bun. It is also called a leaf neck or paan neck blouse.

The leaf shape points softly at the centre and slims the neck. A good choice for brides who want a traditional front.
Tailor note: Leaf point 6 inches deep, kundan stones stitched not glued, cotton lining, front hooks.

A paan back with maggam beads on the outline is a south Indian favourite. Wear it with a green or magenta pattu saree.
Tailor note: Leaf depth about 9.5 inches with the tip at the bottom, maggam work 1 inch wide, hooks at front.

A small leaf opening above a row of pearl buttons feels light and fresh. Good for a sangeet with a floral georgette saree.
Tailor note: Leaf cut 7 inches deep, 4 pearl buttons below it, satin lining, and self piping.
U Shape Blouse Design and Oval Neck
A U shape blouse design is deeper and narrower than a round neck, and an oval is longer still. Both look elegant on the back. If you want to go deeper, see our blouse back neck design guide for support tips.

A deep U back edged with a gold border looks timeless with a black and gold saree. The narrow base keeps it elegant.
Tailor note: U depth about 10 inches, 4 inches wide at the base, padded front, and a 1 inch zari border.

A front U neck is a little deeper than a gol gala and suits a broad face. Keep it with a printed chanderi or kota saree.
Tailor note: Front U 6 inches deep, lace stitched flat on the edge, cap sleeves, and cotton lining throughout.

An oval back is longer than it is wide, so it looks graceful without going very deep. Pair it with a tussar or linen saree.
Tailor note: Oval 8.5 inches deep and 5 inches wide, one dori at the neck with a single wooden tassel.

Getting the Depth and Width Right
- Measure from the shoulder point, where the shoulder seam ends at the neck, straight down.
- For a back neck, about 7 to 9 inches suits daily wear and about 9 to 11 inches suits parties.
- Width matters as much as depth. A square that is too wide slips off the shoulder, so keep about 2.5 inches of shoulder strap each side.
- For anything past 10 inches, ask for padding or a dori so the blouse does not slide back.
- Use stay tape on square corners and paan points so they stay crisp after washing.
Questions women ask
What is the difference between a round and a U shape blouse design?
A round neck is a wide, even curve. A U shape blouse design drops straighter and deeper, with a narrower base. U looks more dressy and suits party sarees.
Is a square neck blouse design good for a round face?
Yes. The straight lines of a square neck balance a round face and make the shoulders look neater. Keep the front about 5 inches deep so it stays easy to wear.
What is pan gala blouse design?
Pan or paan gala is cut like a betel leaf, with soft curves that meet in a point. It can be done at the front, the back or both. It is very popular for pattu and wedding silks.
How deep should a round neck blouse back design be?
About 8 inches for daily and office wear, and about 10 inches for parties. If you go deeper, ask your tailor for padding or a dori for support.
Can I do a pan gala blouse design front and back together?
Yes, but keep one side shallow. A common pairing is a 5 inch paan front with a 9 inch paan back. Doing both deep makes the blouse slip on the shoulders.
Which round back blouse design is good for a cotton saree?
A simple 8 inch round back with buttons or a single dori is best. Cotton is soft, so avoid big cutouts. See more ideas on our cotton blouse design page.
